CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Our Capital Campaign: $5.75 million to feed more of the hungry in our area
We invite you to be part of an initiative to take an important leap forward in the battle against hunger in the Southern Tier. Our capital campaign, “Strengthening the Root of Local Hunger Relief” seeks $5.75 million over and above our regular fund-raising in order to:
-
acquire and renovate a warehouse/office facility at 388 Upper Oakwood Avenue in Elmira, NY that is four times larger than our previous facility. (We moved into the building in February 2011.)
and, in order to put this additional space to work fighting hungerexpand our hunger-relief programs so that we are able to feed thousands more children, adults and seniors in the Southern Tier who don’t have enough nutritious food to eat.
"I'm so grateful for the people
who are so willing to help strangers."
-- Senior Mobile Food Pantry Client
The Challenge
The Food Bank of the Southern Tier currently distributes just under 8 million pounds of food each year. However, given the number of people in the Southern Tier who live at or below the Federal poverty rate, Feeding America, calculates that we should be distributing 16 million pounds of food annuallly.
The Solution
Our new, larger building gives us the capacity to double our food distribution to 16 million pounds. That’s what Phase 2 of our capital campaign is about. We want to raise $1.75 million to expand our BackPack Program™ for school children to every school district in the Southern Tier and to expand our Mobile Food Pantry program by a third.
We have currently raised $5.6 million toward our $5.75 million objective. Please consider making a gift today. Your support will make a real and lasting difference in the lives of thousands of our neighbors who do not have enough to eat.
