What is the Selfless Elf 5k run/walk?

Join the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and our mascot, Jingles the Elf, to run or walk to end hunger in the wonderful Village of Horseheads!

This event is for everyday runners, serious runners and walkers alike.

Selfless Elf is family friendly and we hope it will add to your holiday spirit of giving!

Q: Where do I register?

A: Right here!

 

Q: How much is registration?

A: Adult Registration – $35
For elves ages 13 years and older. Registration includes t-shirt, striped elf socks, finisher medal, and timed race result.

Adult VIE Experience – $50
Upgrade your Selfless Elf experience by becoming a VIE – Very Important Elf! Registration at this level upgrades to a long sleeve shirt, a Selfless Elf pint glass and entry to the Blitzen Beverage Garden along with striped elf socks, finisher medal, timed race result! Entry to beverage garden is for elves 21 years and older. Must present a valid ID to get wristband for entry at the event.

Child registration – $20
For elves 12 and under. Registration includes t-shirt, elf socks, finisher medal, and timed race result.

Child VIE Experience – $35
Upgrade tiny elves’ experience with the Kid VIE – Very Important Elf! Includes a long sleeve shirt, Selfless Elf cocoa mug and a Face Painting Fast Pass, as well as striped elf socks, finisher medal and timed race result! Must get to event early to use Fast Pass. First come, first served.

Q: When should I register?

A: Registration is limited and will close on November 19 or when sold out, so sign up soon! . Shirt size is guaranteed with registrations by November 5. After November 5, shirt sizes are first come, first serve.

Q: I registered but can't attend the event. Can I get a refund, or give my registration to someone else?

A: We’re sorry; registration donations arenon-transferable and non-refundable.

Q: Is my registration donation tax deductable?

A: You bet! Print and keep your race confirmation!

Q: What do I wear?

A: We encourage all participants to dress up in their favorite festive holiday-themed costumes for the event! Awards will be given for best dressed individual and team.

Q: What's in my SWAG bag?

A: Every runner will receive an event t-shirt, striped elf socks, swag bag, customized bib and finisher medal made by Cameron Manufacturing & Design! Instant results provided by Chronotrack.

Q: What's new this year?

  • The Start/Finish Line is in Thorne Street Park!
  • Step pad timing at Start Line
  • SOUPer Elf Soup Drive sponsored by Hilliard. Donate 5 cans of soup and get a special gift!
  • VIE Experience! Upgraded registration earns Very Important Elf status and gets you a long sleeve t-shirt, Selfless Elf pint glass and admission to the Blitzen Beverage Garden. Youth VIEs get a cocoa mug and a Fast Pass to face-painting with their upgraded t-shirt. Of course, coveted striped elf socks, finisher medal and timed race results are given to all elves!

Q: Can I bring my pet?

A: We’re sad to say, no pets are permitted at the Selfless Elf due to safety and liability concerns.

Q: How do I get event updates?

A: Important event announcements will be shared via email and the Food Bank’s Facebook page. When you register, please provide your correct email address.

Q: How do I create or join a team?

A: It’s easy! If you want to create a team, simply add your team name to your online registration form. If you have a large group (20+), please contact Katherine Strawser to organize a group packet pick up.

Q: I want to do more to end hunger in my community! How do I fundraise?

A: Gather even more support in your run/walk against hunger by fundraising! Set up a fundraising page after you register. Set a fundraising goal and share your page with friends and family via email and social media. Every penny counts in our work to end hunger in the Southern Tier. Just $1 provides 3 meals for someone in need.

Q: What are the awards categories?

A: There are awards for:

  • Overall winners, male and female.
  • First place in each age bracket, male and female: 5 and under, 6-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 plus.
  • Best-dressed male, female, and group
  • Top fundraising team and individual

Q: I’m not a runner, can I volunteer?

A: We will need plenty of volunteer support to make Selfless Elf a success! Contact Jennifer Harris, Volunteer Coordinator, or register online at foodbankst.org/ways-to-give/volunteer/.

 

Q: Where do the proceeds of this event go?

A: All proceeds benefit the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. For every $1 donation, the Food Bank can provide 3 meals to our neighbors in need this holiday season. With 1 in 7 residents relying on the Food Bank each year, every dollar makes a difference!

Q: What is Jingles’ favorite food?

A: Like all elves, Jingles tries to stick to the four main food groups of candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.
