4th Annual Selfless Elf 5K Run/Walk

Join the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and our mascot, Jingles the Elf, to run or walk to end hunger in the wonderful Village of Horseheads! The registration donation is $30 per person 5 years and older

This event is for everyday runners, serious runners and walkers alike. Selfless Elf is family friendly and we hope it will add to your holiday spirit of giving! We invite participants to dress up in their favorite festive holiday gear.

Details & FAQs

The entry fee is $30 per person 5 years and older (Shirt size is guaranteed with registrations by November 7th, 2017. After November 7th shirt sizes are first come, first serve.) 

Registration is limited and will close on November 20th, so sign up soon! Registration and donations are tax-deductible, non-transferable, and non-refundable.

Every runner will receive an event t-shirt, striped elf socks, swag bag, customized bib and finisher medal made by Cameron Manufacturing & Design! Instant results provided by Chronotrack. A finish line celebration will be held in Teal Park.

Do children under 5 years of age need to register?
The Selfless Elf 5K is a family-friendly event and children under 5 are welcome to participate in the event at no cost. However, only registered participants will receive an event shirt, striped elf socks, and a timed race result.

How do I make sure to get event updates?
Imporant event announcements will be shared via email and the Food Bank's facebook page. When you register, please provide your correct email address. 

How do I create or join a team?
It’s easy! If you want to create a team, simply add your team name to your online registration form. If you have a large group (20+), please contact Katherine Strawser at kstrawser@feedingamerica.org to organize a group packet pick up. 

I want to do more to end hunger in my community! How do I fundraise?
If want to gather even more support in your run/walk against hunger, you can fundraise! Set up a fundraising page online after you register using everydayhero. Check it out here. Set a goal of your choosing and share your page with friends and family via email and social media. Every penny counts in our work to end hunger in the Southern Tier.

What do I wear?
We encourage all participants to dress up in their favorite festive holiday-themed costumes for the event!  Awards will be given for best dressed individual, team and pet!

Are there awards?
Yes! There are awards for:

  • Overall winners, male and female.
  • First place in each age bracket, male and female: 5 and under, 6-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 plus.
  • Best-dressed male, female, and group 
  • Top fundraising team and individual

I’m not a runner, can I volunteer?
We will need plenty of volunteer support to make Selfless Elf a success! Contact Jennifer Burbank, Volunteer Coordinator, or register online at foodbankst.org/volunteer.

Why is the event in Horseheads this year?
With our growing popularity, we needed more space for our elves and their families to stay safe, run on closed roads, and still have fun, while raising money for our neighbors in need! Our hosts at the Village of Horseheads and Horseheads School District are super excited to welcome all the Selfless Elves this year!

Where do the proceeds of this event go?
All proceeds benefit the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. For every $1 donation, the Food Bank can provide 3 meals to our neighbors in need this holiday season. With 1 in 7 residents relying on the Food Bank each year, every dollar makes a difference!

Why don't you have youth size t-shirts?
We do! New this year, we offer Youth size t-shirts sizes small through large. Thanks for the great suggestion to improve our event for our smallest elves!

What is Jingles’ favorite food?
Like all elves, Jingles tries to stick to the four main food groups of candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.
